Safa is back!
SAFA will reconvene after a 10 year hiatus, with amazing Persian Tumbak player Hamin Honari. With Amir Koushkani coming back to Vancouver after an extended séjour in Toronto, Europe, and Iran, we recently embarked on an intensive rehearsal schedule to celebrate the recent release our new album, Deedar Yar. We had the opportunity to record a session for the Aga Kahn Museum’s online Pocket Performance series in August of 2020 in Toronto (video excerpt below), which gives you a taste of our “new/old” unique blend of improvisation on Persian themes that makes up the SAFA sound.
