Vancouver International Jazz Festival presents Reed & Slide, my exciting new duo with trombonist extraordinaire Samuel Blaser. Sammy has taken over the European jazz scene by storm, performing all over the place with his bands, collaborating with a who's who of the international music scene, including Gerry Hemingway, Pierre Favre, Marc Ducret, Benoît Delbecq, among many others. Here's what CoastJazz has to say about us; "These two virtuosos are equally adept at working the fertile ground between hard bop and free jazz as they are extending their instruments into a sonically impressionist territory for which no maps can be drawn. Swiss trombonist Samuel Blaser and Vancouver clarinetist François Houle meet for some seriously otherworldly improvisation." This performance will include world premiere works by Blaser and Houle, as well as music by Joëlle Léandre, Gyorgy Kurtag, Jimmy Giuffre and John Carter.
