I am honoured to be included in this wonderful program, honouring the music and memory of Jocelyn Morlock. A shining light in our musical community, Jocelyn’s singular musical voice and contagious sense of humour inspired all. I will always remember the joy she took in hearing her imaginative scores come to life in the hands of the musicians she composed for, in particular when Turning Point performed the world premiere of her effervescent Zart, as part of legendary Vancouver Music Festival’s celebration of Mozart’s 250th anniversary at Christ Church Cathedral in August 2006.
The inclusion of John Krosrud’s masterful clarinet concerto, Liquid, composed that same year, embodies this spirit perfectly, with its playful synergy of colour, rhythmic drive and intellect. It’s always a treat to revisit repertoire that was created with friends and like-minded artists. Working with Jocelyn, John, Owen and the members of Turning Point was a career highlight during my tenure as a founding member of the ensemble, and I’m simply thrilled to be back performing with this stellar group of musicians for this season opening event.
